Agenda

  • PY8 planning (no big changes from PY7 plans)
  • XSEDE Quarterly - to be mostly focused on planning activities
  • Singularity discussion
    • Registries - distributed model is more resilient, can handle piece-by-piece.  
      • Name space (should not see conflicts)
      • Singularity Registry - plug-in based (security scanners, builders, etc)
      • Team information
      • Three groups are using in production
    • Singularity directions
      • create a base package (researcher perspective important) that can be extended, developed
      • builder service - adds automatically w/ tags to the registry
      • build a base set of packages and allow users to extend via builders
      • recipes that the user can interact with to make build choices
      • needs to be easy to do, transparent about what's inside
    • Orchestration - guts are in place (but not yet Docker Compose or Kubernetes)
      • probably will come later this year(?)
      • some functionality in place to have pipelines (keep place)
    • Integration with Dropbox/Google Drive ("someone has shared this container with you")
    • Maybe we can be a conduit of information between users and singularity developers?
      • registry w/ builder plugins - what kind?
      • having a quick 'n' easy slurm job w/ a container workflow would be a good direction
      • ok to use globus integration for file movement
    • Interesting use cases on Science Software site
  • Potentially have someone go with Vanessa to the April SP Forum 
    • capabilities available in XSEDE Singularity Repo
