  • Important Dates
    • IPR13 due 11/19/2020.
  • General Announcements– Kelly
    • XAB meeting went well – received some feedback.
      • Much of CEE is left to piecemeal funding to try to do extraordinary things – no real answer from XAB.
      • No real guidance from NSF; they want CEE to be transparent about what we do for next solicitation. Likely get some feedback from NSF.
      • CEE strength = people and innovation.
  • WBS area updates
    • Workforce Development - Linda
      • Training – Susan
        • Working on revamping new user training - last updated about one year ago.
        • Terminology taskforce is moving along – list of terms is really getting developed.
        • Software engineering programming.
        • Current roadmap aimed at new Campus Champions.
        • Normal training events going on.
        • Can we do anything for sites that would like general information? They don’t want PII? Can they get general demographic information?
          • Likely they can, but need to ensure that folks can’t reverse engineer who it is and need a set of best practices (i.e., self-reporting, person selects for themselves, etc.).
          • Likely need to bring to John so that it goes through the proper channels.
          • Start by writing to Linda, Lourna, and Lizanne (cc: John and Kelly).
      • Student Programs – Rosie
        • EMPOWER is going well; heard positive feedback from students; apps for spring closed last Friday; 49 apps from students – most we’ve ever had; 25 apps for mentors; goal is to select 20-25 students; currently recruiting reviewers.
          • Giving a talk on EMPOWER at SC20 workshop on best practices for HPC training and education.
        • C4C: reaching out to staff trainers to meet up; kickoff date is 11/13/2020; Following week with be presentations (final on 11/19); 19 presentations – students will submit to committee their video.
          • Students from Hawaii, Guam, Texas, California, etc.; 70% underrepresented minorities.
        • Seeing continued engagement on XSEDE projects/programs from students.
      • Education – Kate
    • User Engagement – Bryan
    • Broadening Participation – Linda 
      • Two workshops recently – TAPIA and SACNAS – made some contacts at both due to virtual environment; C4C going.
      • HPC in the City Hackathon: 40 students and 20 mentors tackle problems relating to ATL; 10 projects that were created by mentors; COVID projects going on as well.
        • Widespread demographics involved.
    • UII – Maytal
    • Campus Engagement – Dana and Henry
      • Chaminade interested in becoming Champion.
      • Business as usual.
      • SC20 will hold a meeting during that week, but not part of SC20.
      • Virtual residency program proposal and writing apprenticeship are underway.
